The Air We Breath

Alert!

The EPA has releases a new report about US air pollution. Under current federal smog standards, many areas of the US are are being subjected to high levels of pollution. The EPA sights burning of fossil fuels and exhaust from gas powered vehicles as the major causes of the pollution. All residents in the state of NJ, and Connecticut and most residents of NY state live in areas where smog levels are above federal standards. The cause seems to be a combination of factory pollution from the midwest traveling eastward and pollution from automobiles especially in high density areas. NJ mayor James McGreevey blames the Bush administration for relaxing federal environmental regulations, and allowing industries in the midwest to produce other wise preventable pollution.

Planet in Distress!

Effects of Pollution on our Planet:

Our Planet is continuously being assaulted by man-made pollutants. Our air, water, and soil have been greatly compromised. A glaring example of this are Health Advisories posted eating fish caught in our lakes, rivers, and oceans.

For Example:
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Advisory for NY State Residents wishing to consume native fish. Some of the Advisories are as follows (Directly from DEC Website):

All Fresh Water and Selected Marine Water in State:
"Eat no more than one meal (one-half pound) per week"

70 Selected Bodies (High Levels of Pollutants):
"Infants, children under the age of fifteen and women of childbearing age. The DOH recommends that they not eat any fish species from the specific waterbodies listed"

The effects of pollution have made it unsafe to eat the fish in the water.
We cannot stand by while all animals are injured by their own environment, poisoned by us!
